About Us

Kandy Seoul candies are inspired by Korean knots, also known as maedeup (매듭) dating back to the Three Kingdom period (57 BC to 668 AD).

Knots of diverse colors were used as belts, identity tags, and as a
decorative element on instruments. In the ruling palaces, knots were
used to signify dignity and prestige.

There are more than 30 basic types of knots. All with different meaning ranging from symbolism with nature to wishing one well in the afterlife.

All our candies are vegan and gluten-free. Our candies are made with a unique ingredient called Hancheon (also known as Agar-Agar). These candies are popular in Korea and also known as Hobakdang/Kohakutou.

Traditionally our Hobakdang are made from sea moss agar. Sea moss is boiled down into a liquid form. Then sugar, teas, and fruits are added for flavoring. They're left to sun dry for 5 to 7 days for perfect crystallization.
